The 7 Best Pokemon Cards to Invest in Right Now

Not all Pokemon cards are created equal. Some sit at a stable price forever. Others are consistently underpriced on eBay because sellers don't realize what they have, or because they need quick cash. These are the ones worth watching.

I track about 40 cards at any given time. Here are the seven that keep giving me the best returns.

1. Umbreon VMAX Alt Art (Evolving Skies)

The "Moonbreon." Market price hovers around $280-320 but I've grabbed three copies under $200 in the last six months. Sellers who don't know the alt art premium list it as a regular Umbreon VMAX. Set a target at $220 and be patient.

2. Charizard ex SAR (151)

The Japanese 151 set Charizard is a modern grail. Prices fluctuate heavily, ranging from $80 to $150 depending on the day. Anything under $90 is a strong buy. The English version from the 151 subset is also worth tracking.

3. Pikachu VMAX Rainbow (Vivid Voltage)

This card has a cult following. Market sits around $200 but it regularly appears for $140-160 from sellers who bundle it with cheaper cards. Track the card name specifically, not the set.

4. Lugia V Alt Art (Silver Tempest)

One of the best modern alt arts. Market around $100, deals pop up at $60-70 regularly. This card has room to grow as Silver Tempest becomes harder to find.

5. Evolving Skies Booster Box (Sealed)

Not a card but worth tracking. Sealed Evolving Skies boxes jumped from $200 to $350+ in the last year. Any sealed box under $300 is a deal. The set is out of print and supply is only shrinking.

6. Mew VMAX Alt Art (Fusion Strike)

Underrated card. Fusion Strike gets a bad reputation but this specific card is stunning. Market around $65, I've gotten two copies at $35. Patience pays off.

7. Giratina V Alt Art (Lost Origin)

Top 5 modern alt art by community vote, every time. Sits around $90 market but $55-65 copies appear on eBay weekly. The trick is seeing them before other collectors do.

How to actually track these

You could bookmark seven eBay searches and check them throughout the day. Or you could add all seven to a watchlist tool, set your target price, and get a notification when a deal appears. The second option is how I do it now and I haven't missed a deal in months.

The key with investing in Pokemon cards is buying below market and being first. Every card on this list has deals available every week. You just need to be there when they show up.
